If you’re dealing with an outdated kitchen in your home, you know that it can certainly dampen the mood of your entire house. Whether your kitchen is falling apart, too cramped, or it doesn’t look like a kitchen from this century, then you may be looking to begin a remodeling project of your own. A local family found themselves in a similar position, and they knew that it was time to act.
“The existing kitchen dated back at least 20 years, and it was outdated and aesthetically and functionally deficient. Adjacent to a family room addition, the kitchen was visually and physically separated by a large island, with only a single passage to the family room. In addition, the opening that had been constructed during construction of the addition had a low ceiling, and the cabinets, countertop, and appliances were very dark and outdated. We wanted a brighter kitchen and greater openness/access to the family room.”
After doing their research and looking around for multiple different companies, the family eventually chose Cabinet Discounters. They visited our Gaithersburg showroom and met with designer Marie Gignilliat upon arrival. They were extremely happy with the level of expertise shown by Marie throughout their entire project.
“We met with five different cabinet companies over a period of about six months, and had narrowed down our choice set to two before selecting Cabinet Discounters. Our designer, Marie Gignilliat, was hands-down the most talented designer, flexible in meeting our budget without sacrificing the aesthetic we were seeking, and creative in her vision for how the space could be reshaped to meet our goals. Attentive to details, exceedingly patient as we changed our minds (frequently!), she responded with creative solutions for space, design, and materials, and was knowledgeable and helpful in guiding us to sometimes surprising solutions for design and materials, and attentive to our budget. We also found the other designers at the shop to be helpful when we dropped in unannounced and Marie was not around.”
Marie was also able to work smoothly along with the customer’s general contractor, AKS Services.
“Marie also worked closely with our contractor (AKS Services) on the myriad details that homeowners don’t anticipate (or make change orders on the fly), and their collaborative and mutually respectful relationship inspired confidence and produced numerous enhancements to the project.”
In addition to their experience with Marie, the family was especially pleased with the work of their installer, Brent, who meticulously worked to get their cabinetry exactly right.
“Delivery went smoothly, and the delivery crew was careful during the load-in. We were particularly pleased with Brent Johnson, who installed the cabinets. He was exacting and methodical, a craftsman of the highest order, in our experience (we have done several renovations over the years, and built a custom home). He was also helpful in framing and recommending choices for the inevitable on-site changes that arose.”
Working along with Marie, the family selected Brighton Cabinetry with Bryant door style in their kitchen. The upper cabinets are Maple Lace and the base cabinets are Maple Chocolate.
“To say we are happy would be an understatement. The kitchen has completely altered the way we live in the house (for the better, of course). It is bright where before it was dark and gloomy. It is functional as a working kitchen where before it was cramped and did not allow two or more people to work in it. The quality of the cabinets, and hardware are extraordinary. Marie’s unexpected design for the island tied the kitchen to the family room and created two passageways, where before there was just one.”
