“We decided to remodel for a couple reasons. The previous island was dominated by a cooktop which pretty much inhibited casual use. Also the downdraft fan function of the center island cooktop was no longer operational. So we wanted to locate the cooking functions of the cooktop and the oven together on a wall where updraft to the exterior was possible. It works like a charm now. The previous cabinetry was becoming uglier by the day: worn spots, exposed hinges, slide outs falling off runners, dirt collection on top because the cabinets did not go all the way to the ceiling. There was also the outdated working desk area that was essentially useless to us.”

“Steve Mathes was great. He laid out the map of the procedure for us pretty much the way it happened. He also fine tuned the cabinet layout for us with suggestions we would not have thought of on our own.”
In addition to their experience with Steve, the family was also happy with the work done on their kitchen by everyone else involved.
“Delivery guys were efficient and businesslike. Countertop measure guy did well. He was punctual, well experienced as a former countertop installer. He showed me where a cabinet was out of level so I was able to correct that before installation. Countertop installers did well.”
Working along with Steve, the family selected Brighton Cabinetry with Shaker Medium door style for their kitchen. The perimeter cabinets are Rustic Hickory with Mesquite finish, and the island is Maple Zinc. The countertops are Crema Atlantico granite.
“We are very happy with the outcome. My sister-in-law is an interior designer and highly approves. This new kitchen is more the central focus of the house than before – cooking and entertaining of course. We have more room for dishes, glasses, cups, appliances, etc.”
