Kitchen Remodeling Mistakes to Avoid

IMG_2711-editRenovating or remodeling a kitchen can be huge project to undertake with many variables to consider.  Homeowners tend to have a grand vision of their ideal kitchen in mind when taking on a project of this magnitude.  That’s why it’s important to step back from time to time and examine all of the considerations that go into designing and planning your dream kitchen.

Neglecting to Address Workflow

A kitchen must function as a well oiled machine and be an efficient room in your home to serve its greater purpose.  Failing to take into consideration how bodies will move about in this space will effect the efficiency of this busy space.  The refrigerator, stove and sink should also be located in a fashion which allows for easy access from one to another.  Spacing these appliances out into triangle design will allow for a effective workflow.

Sacrificing the Small Stuff

Don’t skip on organization aids such as drawer and cabinet inserts and dividers.  It will not only effect the kitchen’s efficiency, it also be more costly to add if you decide to at a later time.

Forgetting Your Budget

Before you begin, sit down and go over the “must haves” of your remodel.  List all scenarios and be sure that they make sense to your design.  Be sure to keep in mind the important aspects of your remodel throughout all stages. Also be mindful that most kitchen remodels spend about a 1/3 of the budget on cabinets.

Selecting Appliances Last

It is much easier to select appliances before countertops and cabinets in order to facilitate an efficient design.  Cabinets and countertops can be built to accommodate the appliances, not the other way around.

These are only a few considerations to weigh when planning your kitchen remodel or renovation.  Feel like you may need a helping hand to carry out the task?  Contact an experienced kitchen remodeling contractor for help.
